During World War II, the U.S. and its allies embarked on a program - known as Operation Lusty - to capture as much enemy aircraft and material as possible and transport it back to the States for evaluation. Much of that equipment wound up at Freeman Army Airfield in Seymour, Indiana. Once the war ended, and the airfield was being decommissioned, the remaining aircraft that were deemed "museum-quality" were sent to sites such as Dayton or Washington, DC. However, according to records obtained and researched by the Freeman Field Recovery Team, 14 aircraft never left the field. Today, the Team is actively looking for those, as well as other artifacts related to that operation. This video - "American Luftwaffe: The Ghosts of Freeman Field" - is a promotional vehicle for both the ongoing recovery efforts, as well as an upcoming documentary being pursued by the Emmy award-winning Digital Ranch Productions, producers of such popular series as "Dogfights" and "Mail Call".
