  • Geez. If I had to have an operation like that, I would ask to be put to sleep. :/ There is NO WAY I would be awake for that.

  • I find it strangely ironic that all three of the Three Tenors had cancer at some point in their lives: Carreras had leukemia, Pavarotti had pancreatic cancer (he was the only one who died), and just recently, Domingo was treated for colon cancer. Wow. :/ I think Domingo was the luckiest of all; his cancer was at a very early stage, so it only took one operation to cure it. No radiation or chemotherapy was necessary. Thank God.

  • I seriously don't think he was asleep for his colon cancer surgery. Since it was laparoscopic and required only a small inscision (this is one of the reasons why he recovered quickly from that), the doctors probably thought it wouldn't hurt to just give him a local. That has much, much less health risks than a general anesthetic.

  • @Fehlzeiten He is brave. :) I envy him; I can't STAND the idea of being wide awake for a big operation like that. I would have to be asleep. He probably knew that they place a tube down your throat after you fall asleep. That may have irritated his vocal cords and damaged his voice had he decided to go under a general anesthetic. And he wouldn't recover as quickly. It would take him more than six weeks.

  • Thank you !

  • What a brave guy!

  • I knew they gave him an epidural anesthetic. That's probably what they gave him for his colon cancer operation. If he had a general anesthetic, he probably would've stopped singing by now.
