Mitsurugi playthrough of Survival Mode. I wanted to try and surpass my old record of 104 wins.

I believe that my experience of the Colosseum 3 & 4 in the Mission Battle had helped me get as far as I did. In the Colosseum mission 3, you have to defeat 6 Infernos at 5 star difficulty, with one energy bar. Straight after completing this mission, I completed Colosseum 4, where you have to defeat 8 opponents in a row.

This really is an endurance test, as you have to be able to maintain your level of play, especially in the later battles. This became my best game, and my favourite characters were Sophitia, Cervantes and Astoroth. I never used Mitsurugi in SC1 (though he was my favourite in Soul Blade). A challenge appeared for Soul Calibur, where you could compete against players from across the country. In practicing for the challenge, I decided to change character and started learning Mitsurugi (though I only had a few days before the challenge), but I quickly learned him well. The challenge went on all day, and the other players were amazed that I was just unbeatable. I had won every game (in practice and in competition), but there was one player (who it turned out, was new to the game), who was also unbeatable. A player told me that he wasn't very good at all, but he would use 1 move only to win. That player (cleverly) refused to play me in practice, as he knew how good I was, and I could have figured out his tactics. It turned out he used Mitsurugi's "Hell Flash", Eight-Way Run move. He executed the move quickly each time, that when his opponent was hit by it -- the quickest action you could do to recover when on the ground is to hold in the guard button -- but this caused you to leave yourself open to being hit continuously with the same move, until knocked out. We were allowed a few practice games before our competitive game, in which I destroyed him with a few perfects. There was no doubt, I was the superior player. In our competitive game, I won the 1st round -- as I had always done through out the challenge, but I got caught with his "Hell Flash" move in the 2nd round. It went to the decider, and I got caught with his "Hell Flash" move again, which almost knocked me out. I recovered, but not enough and I lost. I don't want to make excuses, but I had been over playing the game -- all day long, and I wouldn't take a rest. It was an adrenaline rush, to being so good at the game -- and I was learning and becoming stronger at the game from playing many different players for hours on end. I think I was playing continuously for 8 hours that day. When it came time for my competitive challenge, it's almost like my mind became numb, and I didn't have any innovation left. Even the other players asked me afterwards what happened. Because I wasn't the same awesome player who had been the talking point of the tournament.
It's not easy for someone who is used to winning, to face defeat. It hurt me. Soon after the challenge, I figured out how to recover from the "Hell Flash" move -- you just don't hold in the guard button, and the impact of the 2nd hit from the Hell Flash -- will knock you across the ground -- out of range of the next move. I later mastered Mitsurugi, where I could parry most moves against real players, and perfected my attacking techniques.
I since lost my Dreamcast, and hadn't played Soul Calibur for over 4 years -- until I found out about NullDC. I'm not the player I used to be - though I'm still good at the game. I hope someday, with the advancement of emulation, that NullDC will allow netplay for SC1 -- because I'll be there.

  • You sure do beat the crap of this game and I LIKE it!!!!

  • @duchessdiore801

    Thanks mate :)

I've thought about making another Survival Mode video, this time using Inferno. I have got about 90 wins with him before, but I didn't record it. I wanted at least 100 wins.

I may make another video with Mitsurugi - to improve on this record. It's not easy to maintain my level of play after so long of playing though.

It's good for improving your mental stamina though.

  • Dude you are really AWESOME in this game!! Keep it up!!!!!

  • @duchessdiore801

Thanks a lot! :D I'm glad you you liked my videos.

I may make more Soul Calibur videos.

  • You are the best Soul Calibur player in history!!!!!

  • @duchessdiore801

Thanks mate :D that's a very kind compliment.

I only wish I can get the chance to play against other players. I hope this game gets released someday on PlayStation Network with online play. I would like to make videos of online battles against other players.

I miss the days of competitive play against good players.
