The only problem I found with big dishes is that other wireless networks interfere with each signal bouncing no matter if it is wireless N. Use a smaller dish or the can-antenna. One of the best dish types that's like the can-antenna is an old ceiling light that has the glass shade, but not the glass shade the actual metal fixture that screws to the ceiling.

It's not... I'm making a double biquad dish right now that will go up to 8 miles. Search for "double biquad dish" thoroughly! Seek and you shall find!! :-)

I did say 18 inch dia. Also, the range is roughly 2/10 of a mi. depending on the terrain and the power being used. It could be a s high as a quarter if a mi.
