Timelessly intense and creepy. This film will stand the test of time not only as a great scary movie, but as possibly the most verisimilar space movie ever made. Which only adds to the dread blanketing the whole thing.
And the trailer perfectly captures that sense and entices audiences with it.
That is extremely eerie! What a classic. No movie is going to top that for a looong time. 30 years old and effects are even higher quality than in any sci-fi made today. No glossy cgi there, only good ol' dirty and gritty props/set.
Not just horror trailers, movie trailers in general. I'm always cautious about watching a trailer because I just KNOW it will give away plot points, or any surprising moment at all in the movie. There's tons of examples, but one of the most recent for me was Burn After Reading, they give away TWO freaking deaths in that trailer, arguably two of the most "Shocking twists" in the movie, made known by horrible editing in the trailer.

Still haven't recovered properly.
One of the greatest films ever made.
Probably the best piece of cinema advertising of all time. Amazing.
