@greendaynonfiction WHO EVER SAID IT WAS, THIS SONG WAS WRITTEN OVER EIGHTY YEARS BEFORE THERE WAS A GREEN DAY AND THIS RECORDING WAS MADE A GOOD 60 YEARS BEFORE ANYONE EVER HEARD OF GREEN DAY AND IT ISN'T THE SAME SONG. I NEVER EVEN HEARD OF GREEN DAY BEFORE PEOPLE WHO CAN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING PAST THE 21ST CENTURY STARTED WRITING IN ABOUT THIS SONG.

"I ain't gonna get fucked like Gribbs.
Fuckin' Gribbs is 70 years old and he's gonna
die in prison.....I don't need that. So, I'm warnin' everybody - could be my son, could be anybody: Gribbs got 70 years just for saying hello to some fuck who was selling junk. That won't happen to *me*. Understand?......."

What a powerful voice, simply beautiful
If Tony Bennett did Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" it would be horrible, and if Green Day did this "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" it would also be horrible. The songs have absolutely nothing in common other than the title. Well, that and they're both very good in their own way. But please, for the musical gods' sake, let Tony be Tony and let Green Day be Green Day!

@danning1 Thanks, I have been tying to get this across ever since the first letter that brought up Green Day which I had never heard of and hope to never hear about them again.

I prefer El Boulevar de los Sueños Rotos...
but this one's fine...

@LN1992 I had never heard of your singer so I looked him up on Youtube. I don’t understand Spanish but he does have a good voice. But the song does not sound anything like Tony’s song. Maybe the words when translated mean the same but the music and interputation is different so I don’t know how you can compare them.

There's no way in the world that Green Day just "came up" with that title. Someone had heard this song, or at least heard OF this song. But so what?
My favorite version of this is a parody by Jonathan & Darlene Edwards (Paul Weston and Jo Stafford). If you can find it, you'll laugh out loud.
Did Mitch Miller bring Tony to Columbia and pick his songs?
LShackley 4 months ago
@LShackley In thoes days Mitch picked the songs But if you were one of his big stars like Frankie Laine was you had input and could talk him out of it. Tony didn't want to record the next song that was given to him but he was not yet a star so Mitch got his way. The song was "Cold Cold Heart" that big city Tony was to country. Rosemary Clooney was told she could sing the song he picked for her or go out the door. This was her first hit "Come Along To My House"
