Thank you. Here in Sonoma Ca there is a personality by the name of Jeff Gilbert, a devotee of those days and fine performer of the style complete with spats. After I told him about this video, Jeff recorded me a cd of Harry's music. Excellent performances. He once played Red Red Robin in the living room of the family home in Hythe Kent. A large part of his troubles came from drinking. I am very fond of Val's voice and other high tenors of the era.
Your grandfather was a damn good musician, though - amazing solo on this video. He also played on the Teddy Bears Picnic and many other hits! My father in law, Val Rosing is the guy singing "Here's to the Next Time."
As a musician he was accomplished but as a person and father he was as I described. My late Dad had a few years to reconcile with him but I don't think many of the others did. He had no time for his grandchildren except to complain about them. I don't know much about him before he married my Gran. I have to say though that the memories of those days when I was small are sweet. I was very excited to find this video, like a connection from the whole family.
The man playing xylophone and drums also mentioned by name at the cricket match was my paternal grandfather, Harry Robbins.1902-1982.I didn't know him well but what I did know wasn't very favourable, he was a cantankerous selfish man who ditched his first wife, my grandmother after 6 children and remarried her in the late 50's having nowhere else to go. However, watching this is a poignant reminder of the long time between then, my childhood and now.
Have been listening to my CDs I got in states of Hall for years but never saw before. This was a treat. He was one of the finest and his crew had to be the best to work for him.
Like This video of my music HERO!! My big favorites!! I can not thank you enough. And I like duck's they are my favorites animals. So I like the bit when Henry Hall Holds the duck!! And I want a time machine, and making him as my freind :) Thank You very much indeed, and good bye.
Val Rosing sounds positively frightened on a lot of Henry Hall tracks.
