Proposals and Reports: Solving Problems in Writing

The next part in my English 101 discussion is about how to find the "purpose" in an essay. Your writing should solve a problem for someone. In business writing, the two most significant documents are the proposal and the report. In a general sense, every nonfiction document is a proposal or a report, either asking someone to do something or telling someone about something. Whether in business or academic research, proposals and reports follow a basic path, and, if you familiarize yourself with the process, you can apply it to all sorts of writing tasks and other projects.
