Painted in Corel Painter IX. This took around four hours (with a couple of mini breaks for stretching and food and such).

  • @ehlin88 First: this is an old, flawed painting. It remains here because people liked it.

Second: What money? I'm a self taught, piss-poor artist who learned in her spare time. I don't make money off these vids, and I don't make much off my art.

Third: There's talent and there is skill. Talent is something you're born with, but without training... it's worthless. Skill is what you get by learning. Every piece I do: I learn.

I'd rather try & make mistakes than be a bitter, armchair critic.

  • ooooo niceee, but why not photoshop? its way better for this sorta stuff i think.. havnt seen hany corel paintings on youtube, but still, goood job man :P 5/5

  • Just because you've not seen them before doesn't mean that Photoshop is a better program. I've used both for digital painting, however I definitely think that Painter is a better program for painting than Photoshop. At least with the way that I work.

  • hey, really enjoyed this piece! if you dont mind, i'd like to give you some critiques (one artist to another). did you use reference for this image? im thinking no? i feel her features - whilst beautifully rendered - are a little misplaced/proportioned. maybe concentrate on the structures beneath each facial feature next time. also, given the night-time theme, i would've liked to have seen her rendered in a cooler light, with blues and greens. if you nail the values, skin can be any colour :)

  • Damn. I forgot paintings can only have one light source. I'm so dumb sometimes--I gave her two to heighten the emphasis on her face. Which, yeah, is somewhat skewed, but hey, one artist to another, what do you do when you don't really notice that till the video is done?

  • This is really cool!! :3 i just got corel and i think i've used almost everything out there Photoshop,Sai,My paint :D im not as great as you but hope to learn more from this.

  • I have this love hate relationship with Corel Painter. I bought painter X, found it hogging up the system, went for painter 11 upgrade.

Much better, love the feel, of many of the "brushes" but struggle to put them to effective use.

I find myself going back to photoshop out of comfort.

Would be interested in seeing how you set up your work flow, and what brushes / mediums you use to paint.

  • You are skilled enough... I'm from an art school, and believe me, you do it better than some people who study art (here in my school) I think you have already inspire me and it's 1:27 am. hahahah, I'm still familiarizing with the corel painter tools, but without the expected results. Greetings! ;)

  • @ehlin88 It saddens me that you are judging another persons creativity. People that are born with the talent should be able to express themselves freely without judgement. Every individual is allowed to have their view on the painting but for you to put down an artist because of your disagreements is incomprehensible. Please, before you stab any other artists in their hearts, develop a sense of understandability and realize the perspective the artist may be trying to portray.

  • @ehlin88 sounds like someone needs anger managment classes eh? If your work is so stinkin amazing then good for you, and the only reason you can't get exposure is because your a jackass.

  • @lonSinceInsane Well, fuck you for not reading in to shit. I have my "art" all over the intrawebs. JUST NOT HERE. Most artists are not piss poor. They're either rich kids who do it because they can afford it, or poor people who has IT but cant show it because they cant work on it because they don't have shit.

Well, whatever. This ass licking stupidness you people, who doesn't know wtf you're talking about, are working makes me sick.

  • @ehlin88 What makes me sad is people like you who criticize others so harshly but have nothing to show for their supposed Superior artistic abilities and expertise. Next time you criticize someones video like this one, that while i'll admit its not the best, they do have obvious talent, have some proof that you know and can do better, instead of being a jerk give them a helpful tip on how to improve. The money thing? Most artists are PISS POOR and probably either spent a chunk or pirated this.

  • fake and gay

  • Love the piece! I'm considering using Corel. Do you still use it yourself? Planning to post anything more recent?

  • @Mercuralis "There's talent and there is skill. Talent is something you're born with, but without training... it's worthless. Skill is what you get by learning. Every piece I do; I learn."

    I like you.

3 months into my 19th year of birth and have never seen words more inspiring. I don't think I could forget these words even if I wanted to. I've thought this of my talent for a long time, but could never put it into words. This'll sound odd, but I'm literally going to hang that quote on my wall:]
