The Sounds of Music event in the 2007 Southern Califonia Science Olympiad State Finals. Northwood High School "Under the Sea" Performance. Won 2nd place in the competition. I'm the guy playing the guitar.

FAQ:
1. How are the strings held on the guitar?
On the bottom of the guitar body, there are 4 screws, and in the tuning box, there are 4 wing nuts with the wings pointing outward. Each string is looped around a screw on the bottom and hooked on to its corresponding wing nut on top. The tension of the string is adjusted by adjusting the wing nut by turning the screw it's attached to.
2. What are the instruments made out of?
Wood, wood, and wood. And a bit of metal. :) For the guitar, there's an internal box frame that holds things together and, along with the neck, withstands the tension of the strings. The resonating box is made from thin wood, and the frets are made from thick metal wire. For the xylophone, the bars are made from maple wood, and the frame is made from some assortment of wood.

  • That's amazing; is that guitar cardboard? It oddly looks like it. If so, how does it withhold the tension of strings? Great job!

  • Haha, no it's not cardboard. It's wood, and there's actually an internal box frame that holds it all together. The wood for the resonating box is thin wood. I'll add that to the video description.

  • What's up Leanord. Hope you can make VGA better for next year while I'm up at SDSU. I'll come down check out the club sometimes if I can.

  • Lol, I'm actually the other guy playing the guitar. Leonard's playing the xylophone. I'll clarify it in the description.

  • one question, what place did it get

  • 2nd in State. I'll mention it in the description.
