Historically Tajiks called their language zabani farsī (Persian: زبان فارسی), meaning Persian language in English. The original term has come back and is increasingly in use in Tajik media. The term zabani tajikī, or Tajik language, was introduced in the 20th century by the Soviets. Many Tajik intellectuals are trying to re-embrace the Persian script in order to reconnect with other Persophone societies. This project is produced by a Facebook group dedicated to the Persian language in Central Asia (Забони порсӣ).
