Vera Drake Part 11

Vera Drake is a selfless woman who is completely devoted to, and loved by, her working class family. She spends her days doting on them and caring for her sick neighbor and elderly mother. However, she also secretly visits women and helps them induce miscarriages for unwanted pregnancies. While the practice itself was illegal in 1950s England, Vera sees herself as simply helping women in need, and always does so with a smile and kind words of encouragement. When the authorities finally find her out, Vera's world and family life rapidly unravel.

I didnt realize she was doing it for free. I cried a little when i saw the look in her eyes as she told the cops than she didnt know that lilian was charging those girls... i'm such a pussy.

Yeah, and consider the fact that her son was mindlessly chasing after girls with his friends - without caring if they knocked up one of them.

It really pissed me off when her son started criticising her and saying what she did was wrong.

They have no right to judge, they'll never know what it's like to sit with a positive pregnancy test in their hand, with their whole world crashing around them, knowing that in the end, it's you who's going to suffer for it when everyone else has got the option to bugger off.

I can see why you'd be surprised because money did change hands between Lillian and Vera but it was for other things. I think the giveaway was when Lillian told the one client that she was NOT to discuss money with Vera, only her. Otherwise, the fee for the "deed" wasn't mentioned.
