1055 High-carbon Steel.

That walmart machete is thinner than other machetes--Ontario, Tramontina, Imacasa, etc. The Martindale I have has about a 21" blade and is fairly thick, though it tapers towards the tip. That blade does *not* flex; I don't know what it would take to cause it to flex.
Colhane has some videos up about the modifications he makes to his machete blades, similar to what you were describing here.
Pinch grip is slightly different from what you were demonstrating there.

Would u recommend the parang to go with a bug out bag?

great review man! from the biggest fan of Bear Grylls!

@monkeyslaye Bear is a survival Guru, but he does the more extreme survival, as in, being placed infront of extreme situations.
Les Stroud, does the more realistic approach in a more realistic situation.
There not really comparable. I like watching them both, but Bear Grylls brings a bit more thrill to the game.

that machete at the beginning is really total trash, low prices means low quality

show us your bear grylls collection...

Any opinion on the Cold Steel machete series? Theyre a bit cheaper and comes in a 1055 steel and are available in a bunch of different styles. The handle and sheath is mediocre on them though
What you don't watch Bear Grylls? How can that be? I watch it when I can. : )
