BARNSTABLE — Firefighters are the scene of a smokey fire at the Unitarian Church of Barnstable on Route 6A. The fire has been knocked down but firefighters continue to take care of potential hot spots.
The fire broke out at about 5:15 today in a building adjacent to the church, which is located at 3330 Main Street (Route 6A). A minister's office on the side of the building next to Cobb's Hill Cemetery sustained heavy fire damage.
Nobody was injured in the blaze.

Bravo! to the Barnstable Fire Dept. for saving the building. I was sadaned to hear of this fire and am happy to see the building largely intact. A century ago my great grandfather, John Phinney was among those manning the buckets to put out that earlier fire. Unfortunately the church was much more severely damaged from that previous fire and the church had to be rebuilt, the current building is the result.
