On June 11, 2002, a 150-foot wide and 60-foot deep sinkhole collapsed in Pile Hills, Florida. The rim of the sinkhole came within a few feet of two three-story apartment buildings. GEC was retained by the owner to take immediate temporary measures to protect the buildings and to design a permanent solution for foundation stability. GEC's innovative approach to this time sensitive situation was an interlocked steel pipe pile wall installed using Giken Silent Piler. The building settlement was arrested by construction of the wall, and the foundation stabilization was complete within one month after the sinkhole occurred.
