A sweet memorable song sung by Suraiya thank u Imirza for uploading this song. The great Naushad sahab and Shakeel Badayuni were the greatest music director and lyrist in those days when it was the begining of hindi films. In the meantime I will be happy if you can upload the song from old Wafa sung by Mukesh "armaan bhara dil toot gaya "
Yes, Manto mentions Shyam in many of his famous short stories. Shyam died so young. Manto was also a great friend of Ashok Kumar. His classic afsana "thanda Gosht", a must read.
@pdavis55 Graduated from Gordon College,Rawalpindi . He was a close personal friend of Sadat Hasan Manto and was the inspiration of many of his stories. Even after partition their bond of friendship endured. One of his famous movies was Bazar released in 1949 where he starred with Nigar Sultana. He died on the set of the film Shabistan. He married a Muslim,Mumtaz Qureshiin and their daughter is a famous Pakistan television artiste, Saira Kazmi married to Pakistan TV artiste Rahat Kazmi.
@pdavis55 Shyam He was born in Sialkot on 20 Feb 1920 was a Hindi film actor of the 1940s. He originally hailed from Sialkot and was a Hindu his full name was Sunder Shyam Chadha, but grew up in Rawalpindi.
@Orientlover1: Thanks much for rectifying my error. I never knew of this actor while Suraya was a familiar name mentioned by my parents. It appears that Shyam was his artist's name though - what was his real name please? In that period, many Muslim artistes used Hindu names e.g., Dilip Kumar (I do not recall his real name either!). Actors later were freed to use their real names as do today's Amir Khans. I bow to the likes of Shakeel who can pen poetry about Shyam with equal elan as about Eid.
@pdavis55 Surayya's full name was Surayya Jamal Sheikh who hailed from Gujranwala ( a city near Lahore). The character playing murli is not Jamal Sheikh but actor Shyam, who was a native of Rawalpindi city.
The sound of murli is wonderful but her voice is better then the sound of murli. Just listen to it at 2:32. It excites deep in the heart. What a god given gift! There will never be another SURRIAYA. Have peace Surriaya Jamal Shaikh.
I understand what you say but this song is not based on murliwala ( krishna) but it is in reference to Hero of the film, co-incidently his name was Shyam too!!
