Despite a worldwide ban on commercial whaling. The whales are still not safe! Greenpeace actively campaigns to help end whaling. Please note that this video contains graphic images which some viewers may find distressing.
"Japan’s tsunami seems to have succeeded, where years of boycotts and protests & high-seas chases by Western environmentalists had failed, in knocking out a pillar of the nation’s whaling industry. Ayukawahama was 1 of only 4 communities in Japan that defiantly carried on whaling and eating whales as a part of the 'local culture', even as the rest of the nation loses interest in whale meat. 2 of their vessels were scheduled to participate in Japan's "research" whaling in April." japanprobe. com
Problem... Man doesn't learn from history. Climate changes combined with man's overhunting is what made the mammoth extinct. Large animals just don't populate quickly enough to compensate. The whales are facing the same situation, but with an added bane. Our world's oceans are being polluted. Mercury is becoming a big issue. So all this added up almost guarantees extinction of the whales!
OK let's all put aside the legal and illegal for a moment. What about right and wrong? Is it right to kill thousands of whales, whether to eat or for science? Are there zero other sources of food? Is there a way to conduct research without killing the subjects? It's proven that whales are already struggling to survive. Why add to the problem by cutting their numbers? These are points no one can refute (unless strictly to be hateful or combative)
In a letter to Japan, published in the NY Times, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund, 21 scientists declared: "Japan's whale research program fails to meet minimum standards for credible science. Also, their whaling is not designed to answer questions relevant to the management of whales & Japan refuses to make the information it collects available for independent review & its research program lacks a testable hypothesis and performance indicators needed for acceptable scientific standards."
los balleneros son unos idiotas, las ballenas merecen una vida mejor, no a los intereses comerciales....whalers are idiots....whalers are idiots..........there are alternative production of food for feed the population better than whaling
I am doing stuff on old whaling stations not that I like what Japan is doing I think It is not Good at all this is probaly on of the worst things anyone can do ever
