These where special marching contingents. Their only task was marching on a Red Square.

Was that Comrade Castro at the end???

@SouthwesternEagle Good historical analogy! Yes, in 1841 Harrison stood out in the freezing cold and delivered the longest US presidential inaugural address in history, around 2 hours. He caught pneumonia and died a few weeks later as a result. Brezhnev probably would have died anyway, but being at the 1982 parade no doubt hastened his demise.

@tennisguyky That's what happened to William Harrison.

Brezhnev died on November 10, 1982, only three days after the Nov 7 revolution military parade. The weather on Nov 7, 1982 was clear, but bitterly cold, and Brezhnev stood out in it for around an hour. This probably helped cause his death three days later.

@Leninabad Yes, thats what i meant, they where not regular army, these where special marching regiments, because practically all their training was serving representitive functions. Soviets had so enormously huge military apparatus, that they could keep up show brigades like those.

Брежнев перед смертью попросил похоронить его лицом вниз. Когда спросили зачем, он сказал:"Через 20 лет откопаете, будете ещё мне жопу целовать"

@Quex01 No, participants were not only from marching contingent like Kremlin Regiment. Many soldiers and officers were from different regiments of Moscow Military Ward, for example Dzerzhinskiy Regiment of KGB. Why they march so good? Soviet government had two big military parades every year - May 9 and November 7. Thousands of soldiers had long preparations. They marched every day for 7-8 hours. So, actually they were ready to march anytime because they did it every time.
Да здравствует Красная Армия!
