I saw Gary play live in the mid 80's,and he put on a great show. He is bitter about being drafted at the height of his popularity. When he got back from Vietnam,music had changed from snappy,memorable three-minute pop tunes to self indulgent trippy hippy blues jams,and he found himself on the outside looking in. Glad he's still out there,rocking the nostalgia circuit...

A friend of mine met him at a concert and he said Gary was a hell of a nice guy very down to earth.

45 years later the songs still sound great. They are pure pop genius. Snuff Garrett and his production team created gems that will last forever. Snuff should get most of the credit. Gary was just a baby faced kid who was inexperienced in the music business at the time. The real talent was the production team that selected the songs, arranged and produced them.

Met him several times and it's true what they all say, he's one he'll of a nice guy and still loves to rock 'n' roll!

You got drafted, but you served our country and that can not be taken away! Thank you Gary. You entertained people and you when the country needed you, not too many people would've done that especially when you had a dad that could've easily made sure you didn't go.

@vonsmitty1313 Not really. There were still snappy, memorable three minute pop tunes. They were being done by people like the Grass Roots, Three Dog Night, Dawn, David Cassidy, Raspberries, Hollies, Badfinger, Main Ingredient, Cornelius Brothers, Todd Rundgren, etc. Like a lot of artists, Gary just ran out of good ideas.

Saw Gary Lewis, The Buckinghams, and the Grass Roots at the Beverly Theater in Beverly Hills back in 1985. I had just meet a Jewish girl that lived in BH and turned her on to the music I grew up with. She loved it!  When the relation soured a few years later I kept singing this song in my mind. "Sure gonna miss her"

Although I haven't seen Gary in over 11 yrs. now, I KNOW the man. I have gone shopping with him..sat at his kitchen table talking..and been behind the stage at some of his show's back then (1990's)..I can tell you that Gary Lewis is one of THE nicest most down to eath and genuine people I've known! Didn't have any hits in the 60s in the UK but gets played on the oldies shows sometimes. Great songs/great tunes which I've only really discovered in th3e last three years. So when are you going to come over and play in London, Gary?
