Firstly the tune needs to be arrested !!!!! Arguments for both feet i feel, right foot down left ready to select first gear, old brits apart of course ( those with the right down obviously sit with the clutch pulled in ? or do you do a quick swop?) Whats wrong with holding the bike with the front brake these days ? i must be missing something but hey ive only been riding since 1973.

It really depends on what direction the wind is blowing.... or what side you DONT want to fall. The left should be on the peg, because after moving off, it will be needed next to shift up, possibly to avoid/evade danger. The front brake is always on hand to stop, so the right is not essential unless you are on ice/hill or gravel etc and dont want a front slide.

I'm 6ft tall and ride a GSA: in certain circumstances (say uphill junction on cambered road/ lane) left foot down = drop the bike!

@MrNewyork1975 My brake is on the left on my 1966 triumph tiger, not so stupid after all!

I nearly always tend to use my right foot to hold the bike on a hill so therefore use my left foot to steady the bike (unless you're drivin down blackpool prom then you have to use both feet lol)

Its all a matter of faith..
Yes faith! Because it really doesnt matter..

@White0Hawk i was told the same thing for my full test. but when i did IAM they were not fussed but most put the right foot down unless on a hill or something

right foot, keeping the bike in 'n'. But if on a gradient, i keep the bike in the gear and use the rear brake with left leg down. With pillions i almost always use 2 because they seem to think they can play twister at traffic lights :P

@MrNewyork1975 Using the left foot only is not always ideal. I used to do it and now use the right foot in certain circumstances after advanced lessons. Try it out, see what you think! :)
use ya left foot on the floor as ya right foot can rest on the rear brake, this stupid question shouldnt have even been brought up in the first place..

@MrNewyork1975 - You will be surprised at the questions you get asked and in some instances if you put the 'wrong' foot down, you could fail an advanced motorcycle test.

@advancedbiker In what instance would you fail? If I had a pillion and put my right foot down I would consider that dangerous (if I lost balance they could fall into oncoming traffic). Apart from that I'm not sure what else should fail on an advanced test? Very interested in your answer as I have my test shortly :)

@ridernew19 I have found over the years that it alldepends on the examiner and his standards. It alsodepends on what organisationand groupwithin that organisation. This subject was raised at a club night and went on a bit till one chap had the answer which shut everyone up. Quote,; I put both feet down, because if I didn't I'd fall over. Cause I am a short ar*e'. For your test check with your group and good look with the test.

im doing my bike test at the moment and my instructor confirmed it is bad practice to put your right foot down and in your test if you do it too much you can get marked down... pretty much made it clear to me which foot to put down...

@iplayrealguitar8 - Thanks, good advise. Get as many 'brownie points' to pass your test. Good luck.
