This video features the harmonic waves produced by tuning the vortech pumps to the resonant frequency of a tank's 'wavelength'. The first tank is 120cm, featuring a standing wave or 3rd harmonic, using two pumps in antisynch pulse mode. Second tank is 60cm, featuring a long wave or 2nd harmonic, using one pump on pulse mode.

  • i could just picture all that water spilling above the rim

  • That is why the water level is so low. This is really just a demonstration and probably too strong a flow for all but the most hardcore flow-luvin corals.

  • waves are nice but I think not needed on a 24/7 basis.

  • What makes you think that corals don't need to breathe or eat at night? Water flow does not decrease at night on wild reefs, nor should it be decreased at night in a captive reef.

  • Shoot... my two big aqua clear powerheads do the same thing... nah just kidding.

  • Right or wrong? v = speed of sound in water = ~1481 meters per second at 20 deg. C. A tube with both ends closed contains half wavelengths, so the whole wavelength in the tank is 2.4 meters. v/λ = f, or speed of sound divided by wavelength = frequency, so the fundamental resonant frequency of the tank on the left is 1481 / 2.4 = 617 Hz or 617 cycles per second. Also the tank on left is showing a 2nd harmonic, not 3rd. Right?

  • @corallite wavephysics.pdf by michael twardos 2004.

  • @corallite waves are not the same as flow. a wave moves through the water, the water does not actually move much at all. a wave that has travelled from america to the coast of ireland has not brought the water along with it.

in aquariums you would need to keep flow pumps as well to keep the actual water moving past you tank additions and i would not keep wave makers on 24hrs. i would keep the flow pumps on 24 hrs.

  • @Porre1337 intermittent pulsing from one power head to the next...thats what makes it do this

  • @Ctsmith18 not a true statement.....if the tank is sealed correctly the wave action will not reduce lifetime on the tank itself or the seals

  • Me thinks I feel sea sick... ;)

  • i bet your fish tanks dont last as long as they should with that thing in it constant pounding on the walls weakens the sealant but thats pretty good for an aquarium wave maker

  • cool
