Fibroid Tumors- What are they?

What are Fibroids?:
Fibroids are benign growths in the uterus. Depending on their location, symptoms of fibroids may be heavy menstrual bleeding, pain, or pressure on the bladder, bowels or back. Fibroids are the most common benign tumor in humans, affecting 40% of women over 40 years of age. They are the reason for one third of all hysterectomies [removal of the uterus] performed each year in the United States. Slightly larger numbers of African American women are affected with fibroids, but they cause suffering for women of all ages and ethnic groups.

Symptoms of Fibroids:
Uterine fibroids cause different symptoms depending on the fibroids size and position within the uterus. Fibroids may be within the wall, where they are called intramural fibroids. They can be outside the uterus, where they are termed subserosal fibroids. If the fibroids are within the cavity of the uterus they are referred to as submucous fibroids.

Submucous fibroids often cause heavy bleeding. Such fibroids need not be large to cause life threatening bleeding. Menstrual bleeding may be very heavy, or a patient may have bleeding outside of the regular cycle of period bleeding. Such fibroids may also cause a woman who is pregnant to miscarry.

Subserous and intramural fibroids often cause pain and pressure in the pelvic area. Patients complain that their fibroids cause them to urinate often, and not completely empty their bladder. Similarly, fibroids in this position may cause pressure on the rectum leading to constipation. When the fibroids grow large enough, they can press on the ureters leading from the kidneys. This can lead to kidney problems. Back pain has also been noted with fibroids outside the uterus.

If the fibroids are on a stalk, a pedunculated fibroid, they may also twist on themselves and become necrotic. Inside the endometrial cavity, a pedunculated fibroid may pass through the cervix.

Many fibroid symptoms may mimic other diseases in the uterus. Fibroids are very seldom cancerous. However the symptoms of fibroids may also be the symptoms of a malignancy. For example, a woman with heavy menstrual bleeding in her 40s may be at equal risk of having endometrial cancer. Even if a woman has a history of fibroids, she should not assume that the vaginal bleeding is coming from the fibroids.

Also, pressure in the pelvic cavity, may be a symptom of ovarian cancer, as well as fibroids. If you have symptoms which are not normal for you, contact your health care giver as soon as possible.

I was just told I had to have major surgery for fibroids. I'm 33 years old and said they were massive. I was at a fertility clinic because it took 4 years to get pregnant. I had my first son at 28. My husband and I tried for 2 years because I went to a fertility doctor and they told me these fibroids are in the way. I'm scared and nervous. I really want another baby. Your daughter is beautiful. Was the recovery brutal?

Please call me. I would like to know did your stomach go down after you had the surgery, and do you feel better? I am told by my doctor that I have fibroids. I have been having non-stop back-pain, bleeding, cramping, headaches, tiredness, etc.

follow up, bleeding from fibroids has stopped completeley for a long time now as I had a macrobiotic consultation and was given Health concerns Longevitabs,Dr, Fungs contain 20 herbs and crushed deer antlers which stop uterine bleeding, u better not touch one fried food either and go macrobiotics,grains beans,seaweed and miso soup, once bleeding has stopped u still need to discharge tumours Baplerum sorry spelling I will find correct and root and macrobiotic remedies

Ok my bleeding has now completeley stopped ,i am eating macrobiotics, cooked grains,millet, brown rice about 70% a day,cooked miso soup with kale and shiitake mushrooms, seaweed daily which is a hugeweight reducer, cooked greens,umeboshi plums are 70% iron the gynecologist wont tell u to cook them in kuzu root to make a drink ,also take Health Concerns ,Longevitabs,chinese herbal tabs to stop bleeding ,3 tabs 3 x a day,

and my bleeding is now cut in half with just 1 week of strict macrobiotics, no meat, dairy, oils fats, etc and the pill is cutting it down even more, if ure hemorraging get the D and D obviously, but when she hands u a prescription for Depoprovera, which is pure evil, u should really tell the gynecologist to fuck off for suggesting such a poison, instead to stop more fibroids in future U need to get off sheeple diet, and get recommendations but i know only 5% of u will listen to me so lol

Anyway the gynecologists give u Iron to help and this actually increases bleeding if not accompanied with Vitamin A, vit A plays a part google this usually a deficiency is a problem, anyway umboshi plums are 70% iron and if u cook in with dissoved kuzu a root, will get iron, when u go to a Macrobiotic couselor u will fill out a history than will give u a couple page written recomendations, forget it be a good sheeple and keep drinking the koolaid and listen to what doctors say with no research
