@BiancaAustralia So in your opinion, physical and mental cruelty of children is necessary? Shame on you. One can be pushed to succeed WITHOUT being mentally or physically broken. Wake up.

@SportsAcro1 but like really any other gymnast would at LeAsT to be at the spot she took, others did train as much or more than her but didn't really tooken her spot, anyways Shawn Johnson was in the Olympics for a reason. She knew to focus on gymnastics and stay balanced, it can be shown to be proven

haha no duh =)

We are in agreement. She was disappointed. I don't think more sacrifice would have been worth it, or really would have helped her anyhow.
-
Of course Shawn was disappointed at placing second but that has nothing to do with it. Do you think that if she trained more and had less of a social life like other gymnasts that she would have definetly won? My point is that she doesn't put in the extraordinary hours that other gymnasts do and is still one of the best in the world.

Shawn is crushed at coming in second at Olys. If you don't see that you're crazy. She wanted and expected to win. And actually had a rather good meet.

whooohooo gym beats figure skating in rougherness!

There is a difference between pushing through pain and injuring yourself. Sprained ankles etc. can be competed on if you can handle it because they will heal. Other serious injuries really should be taken care of because you could permenantly injure yourself. I trained with stress fractures in my back for years before I even knew anything was wrong. If I had caught it earlier, it wouldn't be taking nearly as long to heal. If I had continued to train, I may have needed a bone graft.
How does a child of four/ five know they want to be an olympic gymnast unless it is planted in their head as the grow up by coaches, parents etc? I love gymnastics but changes NEED to be made with regard to training methods. Of course hard work and sacrifice is required but does this really have to be at the expense of a childhood and the abuse suffered by some children in the sport is comlpetely unacceptable. Shawn Johnson has hit a good balance between training and having a life.

I think that life can be hard... Getting to the olympics isnt supposed to be easy or even possibly fun, Its hard work, sometimes you get pushed to near breaking point, I know I have been there but if its YOUR choice then suck it up and deal with it...
