This is a test run with my first prototype hand built Stirling engine running from the heat of my hand. The pressure chamber contains helium, which offers a slight improvement to performance. This proof of concept design was used to test the theory that one could build a heat-of-the-hand Stirling engine without using a machine shop. The story of this engine has been published in the book, "Three LTD Stirling Engines You Can Build Without a Machine Shop." You can learn more by visiting http://StirlingBuilder.com.

  • Nice engine !

Engine without helium can run with the heat of your hand ?

  • @PyroEvil Yes. It will run on heat of the hand with or without the helium. But it does better with it.

  • @16strings nice, do you think this would increased a solar sterling engine. theoretically you could build them smaller for the same power output of a normal atmospheric sterling engine. that would be sweet!

  • @boxa888 Yes. Many solar Stirling engines use helium or hydrogen as the working fluid (gas) inside.
