An iso from Band of Brothers in which an unnamed German officer addresses his surrendering troops. It is the best part of the whole series. I was unable to find the name of the able actor portraying the general, even using IMDB. The dialogue is: Men, it's been a long war, it's been a tough war. You've fought bravely, proudly for your country. You're a special group. You've found in one another a bond that exists only in combat among brothers. You've shared foxholes, held each other in dire moments. You've seen death and suffered together. I'm proud to have served with each and every one of you. You all deserve long and happy lives in peace.

  • The actor portraying the general is Wolf Kahler. He was also the nazi commander in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

  • @Crymson1 ''Russians were fairly brutal, though not even nearly as murderous to civilians as the German armies were''

Based on what source? At '39 and before terrible war crimes were done by soviet forces on their occupation of eastern-europe. On good example of that is Holodomor. A great forced famine where 5-14 million Ukrainian civilians died.

Also when soviets chased germans to Berlin, on the way eastern-europe got raped again. Also german civilians suffered horrible fates..

  • @kaahaajaFIN I wonder at why you're exerting effort on apologetics for the Wehrmacht. The Russians were fairly brutal, though not even nearly as murderous to civilians as the German armies were. The Americans and British were immensely tame in dealing with German and Italian civilians.

  • @Crymson1 Of course it isnt. No justification for any german, russian, british, american and others' crimes.

  • @kaahaajaFIN That's no justification.

  • @Crymson1 War changes people. Especially the ones who fought on the frozen eastern-front. Crimes happened on both sides.

  • try cc on this video LMFAO xD

  • @proteinjones He did also play the German general in The Lost Battalion

  • @Crymson1 They had roughly the same training the SS did being them paratroopers they need the extra extensive training.

  • @directo53 The 101st was able to stand up to the SS.

  • @StylexStyler Some in the Wehrmacht did terrible things. On the eastern front, they often laughed, snapped pictures, and helped while the einsatzgruppen shot Jews.

Some of the Wehrmacht were decent men. Some were evil. Many others simply went with the flow, and that meant often committing atrocities. The classification of "SS = bad, Wehrmacht = OK" does not fly. Historical evidence proves it incorrect.
