THE SINGLE SHOWN IS NOT THE SONG YOU'RE LISTENING BUT IT'S THE SAME GROUP ON BACKBEAT. THESE GUYS ARE FROM BAYTOWN TEXAS TO BE EXACT.. COASTLINERS ARE MORE THAN A GULF COAST VERSION OF THE BEACH BOYS. THEY ARE VERY GIFTED AND THEIR MUSICAL TALENTS STAND ON THEIR OWN MERIT. I THINK THIS IS THEIR LAST ISSUE UNDER THEIR NAME..
Back Beat was owned by the infamous black gangster Don Robey who owned his own label in Houston long before Motown came around. The Coastliners might have been the only white act he had.

@boxravens That's because they lived across the bay in Lynchburg. They're closer to Baytown than Deer Park.

Hey Jade, Rex was the 1 I couldn't remember's name, thx! He sang also, but was 2nd to Larry Sanders on most their songs. I was like 16 at thet time & remember their music so well...but also have "slept since then...and then some" !!

fancypants...I 'm also from the Houston area...but was only about 9 when this song was on the radio. I remember seeing these guys on the Larry Kane Show...I thought that the singer's name was Rex Kramer. It seems that I'm incorrect, but was Rex Kramer a member of the band??? As my sister would say, I've slept since then!

I did not know the Dawson, remember hearing of them. Your memory of the area very accurate. Yes, sunshine did post the song, but it sure sounds different than in the '60s (maybe a newer version, as they are still recording), but appreciated just the same. And, did you see where we are quoted as "2 hippie girls from Texas?" I was not even a hippie in 60s. Just a fan who was lucky enough to live close & enjoy the tunes!
