"It makes no difference" is a personal favorite of mine, a truly touching song.
Composed by band member Robbie Robertson

It would be interesting to know if this song is known in the UK due to the information that I found below:

"The British release of Best of the Band featured a different track listing, replacing "Tears of Rage", "Don't Do It", and "It Makes No Difference" with "Rag Mama Rag", "Time to Kill", "Ain't Got No Home", and "I Shall Be Released"." http://theband.hiof.no/albums/best_of_the_band.html

The video has pics of THE BAND and a few of Canadian landscapes.
Taken from my disc: 'The Best of THE BAND' (1976). Enjoy!!

Lyrics:

It makes no difference where I turn
I can't get over you and the flame still burns
It makes no difference, night or day
The shadow never seems to fade away

And the sun don't shine anymore
And the rains fall down on my door

Now there's no love
As true as the love
That dies untold
But the clouds never hung so low before

It makes no difference how far I go
Like a scar the hurt will always show
It makes no difference who I meet
They're just a face in the crowd on a dead-end street

And the sun don't shine anymore
And the rains fall down on my door

These old love letters
Well, I just can't keep
'Cause like a gambler says
Read 'em and weep and the dawn don't rescue me no more

Without your love I'm nothing at all
Like an empty hall it's a lonely fall
Since you've gone it's a losing battle
Stampeding cattle, they rattle the walls

And the sun don't shine anymore
And the rains fall down on my door

Well, I love you so much
It's all I can do
Just to keep myself from telling you
That I never felt so alone before

  • Brilliant song. One of my favourite moments of The Last Waltz

  • @maxhalley

I agree its a brilliant song, very emotional. Thanks for your comment.

  • You can feel Rick Danko's heart in this vocal

  • @ControlAgent2001

Its truly beautiful, thank-you for your comment :)

  • I saw a performance by Classic Album,a tribute to the Last Waltz in Toronto ,2012 thanksgiving. This song has stuck in my head ever since and I wish it would go away so I can move on. The Band were simply professionals who matched and created great lyrics to a melody and matched it to the correct voice.Rick as always outperforms with his quivering style that brings a mood of great sincerity and sadness backed by terrific music.Unmatched by any other bands they just flew. Serious MOJO present here

Christine, thank you for your gifts.

  • Nicely done. To the living and the dead, thanks for the great music. Some times that something has to disappear before you know what you could have held.

  • @joeyd1957, dont feel bad.I lived and went to school near abbey rd and apple studios for years

and never knew it.its really weird though cause certain songs trigger all kind of memories eg I can smell the rain falling on the concrete yet I cant remember what I had for breakfast:-) .Both

bands became great studio bands with one final performance.

  • @theonlywaltz

I saw it as well and I was in heaven. Imagine they played every night around the corner and just up the street. Unfortunatly I missed that by about ten years.

  • @theonlywaltz
