Take a look at Canada's and Britain's healthcare system and then tell me that this healthcare bill that these idiots in congress are presenting is what is best. I want healthcare reform but this is not it. Also your telling me that if you could not afford healthcare then you would have no problem going to jail? What about your mother, father, sister or your brother? How would you feel about it then?

Social Security & Medicaid is going broke, not because it is inefficient or not well run, but because successive administrations funded wars & pork but ignored pending unfunded liabilities. The Bush administration was particularly criminally negligent, because to brag that they were "keeping taxes low" they just borrowed money from China & didn't provide funding cushions for programs like Social Security & Medicare. You have to look at all the factors, & not just the GOP spin.

Fist, you didn't answer the question of how it's a "government takeover". But to address your other points: the post office has been hit by the economy, and by the mass switch from print to electronic communication. It also hit private industry with old established newspapers & magazines going out of business. The post office was efficient, delivering a letter anywhere in the nation for under 40cents.

In a system where all citizens, regardless of income, have access to affordable health care it's necessary for everyone to contribute. If you can afford it you should have h.c. insur. Otherwise if you contract a terminal illness or serious injury you end up in the emergency ward at everyone else's expense. There are premiums subsidies for low income. I don't like the fine system, would prefer inc. tax deductions, but fine system is what the bill uses to ensure everyone as h.c. insurance.

Health panel, composed of medical experts, will do research on the comparative effectiveness of different procedures, & make that info. available.

Only the GOP could suggest that it's not in our best interest to find out what works & what doesn't.

Premiums will definitely increase. If you insure another 46 million people & end discrimination for preexisting conditions it will cost some. The question is whether it will reduce costs more than just continuing the present system where premiums are rising av. of $1500/yr & will hit $30,000/yr within a decade. There's gotta be a lotta waste in a system that spends almost twice as much on h.c. as other countries, with really no better results, & still doesn't cover everyone.
