This is a short film I did called: The Breakup.

Music: Death Cab For Cutie - Marching Bands of Manhattan

written, directed, edited, acted, and produced by Aaron Fenn.

  • How did you get the shot between 1:17 & 1:18 without the camera showing up in the mirror?

  • haha, I'm glad SOMEONE noticed that...LOL

careful planning. the camera is on top of my printer but it's hidden but the brass divider on my closet doors. tricky. haha

  • Have to say, I didn't find the ending - namely the suggestion that they will likely get back together - particularly convincing or orginal. However, the continuous monologue over the top of everything was really well written and timed. How long did this take you to write and film? You should definitely make more.

  • i actually had a friend that said he would've liked the ending better if I realized I didn't need her and when she called I didn't answer...and i think that's cool for sure.

  • oh and i wrote it in a day and shot it probably in like 3 days, the editing took a while though definitely.

  • pretty good

you could even enter one of those online video contests, like yobi film

  • thanks!!! I really appreciate it! What's yobi film? I've never heard of it

  • I sure wish this was how it would happen for me, but want to go through as much as this story, but I know the feeling of this now.

  • Great job, dude!!! I LOVE making short films. This is a very nicely crafted short film. It reminds me how awesome film can be even if it is so simple. We don't need huge CGI effects or 3D. We can make something amazing by telling a great story. And you did that! Congrats!

  • This is really fantastic, and your voiceover works very well! Good job :)

  • Yeah, I think if you had neither picked up nor cancelled the call, but just ended it while it was still ringing, it would have been a great ending. You can always do a Director's Cut ten years from now! Btw, you reviewed Funny Games elsewhere and in the review you mentioned you'd seen Hidden. But have you seen The Piano Teacher? It's utterly brilliant. Haneke's best.
