Rally at the Billy DeFrank LGBT Community Center

The Reverend Michael Ellard speaks to us about the dangers of polarization and playing the blame game. He notes that many on the Yes on 8 campaign want us to blame African-Americans as scapegoats for the proposition's victory. Even though we are angry and hurt over the passage of Prop 8, we must remember that we have to reach out to the churches whether we like it or not. It is my hope that we will pursue a 50-state-like strategy that will sway the hearts and minds of at least some in those congregations which urged them to vote Yes.

Equality for all. I hope someday, and not too long from now, people will look back and think of the lack of LGBT rights as stupid as things like segregation, lack of civil rights, etc. People look back and think, what were they thinking? Well I think the same about this too. Why should LGBT community be treated differently.

I really think we need to get some in the churches on our side. I know religion can be a coercive force at times, and I think many in the communities might have been scared into voting Yes.

Thanks for posting. Blaming is useless at best. It takes our focus off of civil rights and justice and turns us into judgmental people. Our rights don't come from the majority, they come from the US Constitution and our honorable California judges have sworn to administer justice under the US Constitution impartially. If justice and equality does not favor races or creeds, why would it favor genitals?
