Lesson 4/16: What is Christian Folk-Science?

The science presented in many Christian textbooks is quite different than the science presented in secular textbooks and the science being practiced in corporate and university laboratories all accross the world. What is the purpose of science anyway? Is the ultimate purpose of science simply to reinforce our worldview commitments, or is to gain insight and understanding into the world God made apart from our own metaphysical biases?

@updownleftrightinout I'm not sure that those examples of "Atheistic Folk Science" are good examples. I think science gives us a better position to talk about supernatural claims than if we were philosophers talking about existence and the supernatural before science came around. I think Dawkins and Provine were not at all saying that science proves metaphysical naturalism which is what he implied. Instead they think it gives us no reason to think of supernatural alternatives.

There is actually a branch of science that is dealing with ancient literature (including the bible) in an objective manner. Theology on the other hand is biased because it asumes a devine origin of the bible! It's therefore also just a form of 'cristian folk science', as you call it :P

I live on planet earth... thanks for asking. Its very easy to say there are lots of applications for evolution, well.. where are they? Name some. Lets not confuse evolutionary theory with operational science though. Go for it, give me an example of evolution being used in medicine or another area. Or do you just swing your arms and say 'there's soooo many examples' and actually give none, like so many of the evolutionary faith.

@dcrmsmith55 what planet are you living on? evolution has many practical applications and is the base for such things a medical science biology and so forth. Practical day to day apllication are there...

Sounds reasonable unless the 'scientific paradigms' assumed are wrong. All scientists are bias, in fact their bias limits their finding, thus the results are narrowed. If they find evidence against the paradigm the ignore it and call it 'anomalous'. Evolution has no practical application either

First properly thinking Christian I've heard on youtube. This guy is good.

As for what the children would do if their ideas come crumbling down under the weight of evidence, most evidentially ignore the evidence or don't pay much attention. There are so many blind people who refuse to listen to anyone with different ideas.
