This song reminds me of the days when as a boy on Saturdays we would go to town and on the public square there would be preachers and singers leading public worship. This went on all day every Saturday. This seemed to be true for all small towns and especially in southern states. Perhaps many of you, like myself, who grew up in small town will remember this expierence.

  • This, IMO is one of the better examples of Ear'ls guitar playing. Listen to some of the bass runs he makes behind the vocals in some of the verses, combined with the finger picking on the higher strings. And combined with the fast tempo of the song. Truly impressive. This, along with God Loves his Children are probably the best examples of his guitar work with fast tempo gospel songs.

  • Songs like this made an everlasting impression on me over 45 years ago...

  • @gidfiddle try bluegrass lyric search

  • @biblefixit Readest thou all the begats?

  • I've been listening to this cut of Lester and Earl for over 30 years and never heard it this clear and detailed. What a treat. Must be a remastered version. What is the source? Thanks for posting!

  • Just be sure to read the whole King James Bible, and not just listen to music and go to church houses.

  • 20 yrs old and this is my favorite type of music, just something about the harmony in the voices, the harmony in the instruments, the message of the words.....

  • my gosh, really .where did music like this go? i guess everything kinda fades with time but what talent! bluegrass will never die!

  • I have a CD by the same title "Preachin, Prayin and Singin." Your the first song on the CD. You guys are awesome!! Keep up the good work for the Lord!!

  • When I reached my teenage years I got caught up in the drugs and rock & rool scene. When I was 44 years old the Good Shepherd came for his lost sheep. Now I can be found preaching, praying, singing...

  • Earl played guitar instead of banjo on the "sacred" songs. The banjo was considered too frivolous of an instrument to play in Gospel music back then. So Earl would usually switch to guitar on these songs in the earlier days.
