Dear world leaders
I'm addressing you in this video using my mother tongue, which is Catalan Sign Language. Like me, there are in this world millions of deaf people who have not had the opportunity to access to information because they were unable to communicate with the world in a language according with their necessities, or failing to access education because of their disability. In the first world countries handicapped are lucky because, to a lesser or greater degree, we can access information through subtitles, interpreters or the Internet, but when I think of my deaf brothers in poor countries in Africa, Asia ... I feel sad. So I would like to appeal to world leaders, so that in these times of crisis, do not forget the most vulnerable in front of adversity: handicapped. Gradually, is being introduced worldwide legislation that pushes the UN member countries to take in their legislation. But I think that world leaders must confront these themes not only for richer countries to see these improvements, also poor countries must have to do to finish bit by bit with the unjust inequalities, for helping to equality people of developed and poor countries in an atmosphere of harmony and fraternity without looking at people as where they came from, but by their skills and competences, for his humanity.
Because we are all human, disabled too, and our rights must be respected. These rights so well reflected in the Declaration of the UN human rights. From here, I would like to call for the leaders to fight harder to make this Declaration accomplished throughout the world, not only for the disabled, also for the millions of people living under a political regime of oppression and fear who can not access to information, or any of the inherent freedoms in men.
Freedom means democracy, democracy means freedom. We must be consistent of our actions and not allow freedom being cut in any place because that helps to destroy our WORLD under the yoke of inequality. Whites, blacks, Asians ...; deaf, listeners, poor or rich: HUMAN after all. Inhabitants of a world we must decide, among everyone, not only among the wealthiest, how we want it to be.
We need more democracy. Everyone should be able to express their views freely as I do from here. Democracy is the bedrock of a decent life and equality in an unequal world . The globalization of democracy will make a free and legitimate world, and it is the basis for the full development of these countries that need to resurge of their poverty to build a consensus world among all.
We must act fast, because as President Obama says: Yes, we can , but it is not enough to can, we MUST act and do it right now. Maybe after it will be too late.
Thank you very much for your attention and do not forget that our hopes are set on you.
Do not let us down.
Speak up, I can't hear you. I think your volume is messed up.
