Yes it did happen. I was there. USS Ranger 1964 spying on the french nuclear tests.
-
where do you store the thing on an aircraft carrier? haha
-
This takes amazing skill. Respect for the pilots. I didn`t know they tried this, thank you uploader.
-
damn, that is impressive.
-
U-2... The only plane that needs training wheels to take off.
-
this dude had bangin brass balls to even agree to try this.
-
wow what a pro pilot... it looks very very difficult to land that on a carrier.... it looks deadly
-
that must be scary for the pilot. Those things are built to fly, not to land, and putting one of 'em down on a shoebox in the ocean takes a big set of balls.
-
Im surprised by this, it seems to do a pretty good job of landing and taking off on a carrier, probably becuase it weighs so little.

@revjoerg No catapult, she launches on her own, that's another reason she's so beautiful.
What a beautiful airplane the U-2 was !!

lol if this plane is the most hardest plane to land in a normal runway I guess it the most impossible to land on a carrier...the plane is no f-18 they cant afford to crash an U-2 or even lose an U-2 pilot that simply cant happen
