  • "What's tacky about asking for payment?" Right on!

    First thing you should do is get the time scale before you turn in the article.

    The more you know about when you might get paid, the better off you will be.

    You can at least keep track time wise.

    Second, you should never rely solely on that check for whatever expenses you have earmarked.

    Always have another source of temporary income ready.

    And that's a tip from a smartass.
