Whoa, Tyra comes across as really belligerent in making her point. Yes, the reality is that mainstream American beauty standards idolize white beauty, and the fold surgery & Tyra's weave are part of the same paradigm. But ... she is just rude here!

I don't believe that there is a "european modernization" in it. There are a lot of asians with big eyes and double eyelid crease naturally and there are white people who don't have big eyes nor a double eyelid. Tyra has made some points but i didn't appreciate how she bagged on her about turning white and acting as if she knew everything. She doesn't fully understand the situation, comparing it to her hair.

It's not hard for me to understand. I have never once denied that there are people out there of all races who have insecurities about their culture. My argument throughout was specifically with Tyra's paticuarlly racist comment about her trying to be caucasion.
I also think Tyra is a hypocrite and a bad role model. She saidwhen she was an upcoming model she used fake hair(know a model that doesn't?) but WHY does she now? People love her, why doesn't she wear her natural hair and inspire ppl?

@BrunetteBarbie21 No, not in all cases. But a lot of the time, it is because of some kind of insecurity with their own culture. and I didn't say ALL black women, but a large majority do have problems with their identities. There have been films made about it for god's sake. It's harder for you to understand because you're not faced with the same challenges. Just because you don't recognise the problem, it doesn't mean it isnt there. ever heard of the term "good hair"?

So when a person of any other race apart from caucasion 'changes' something about theselves its ethnic tweaking? Very few people like what they've been given from God. I don't think a black woman who straightens her hair is trying to deny her heritage anymore than I do when I straghten my hair. Its hair. Isnt their more to a person than appearance?

Ok. this could go on forever.
But it's different when you're white and have curly hair, to when you're black with it. The "afro" is a strong part of the black identity, so changing it makes more of a statement than if you were to change it as a white person. Do you see what i'm trying to say?

We both clearly agree wiith one another. My only gripe iswith what Tyra specifically stated ' you're trying to look more caucasion,' And that was my point to our previous comments about me saying abbout the white woman getting the perm denying her heritage (in reply to what you said about lightening cream) I am white and have very thick curly hair which I oftenn straighen, no-one has ever told me I am denying my heritage. btw I don'tstraighten often, i love my curly hair its just I like variety

It's not the same thing. Generally, society doesn't set standards that make women feel so inferior that they want to start resembling men. But it does with race. And that's not a matter of opinion, it's a fact. Gender and race are completely different issues. She wasn't attacking this girl, she was trying to get her to come to terms with her identity issues. Maybe you're right and she got the surgery just because, but because of her previous conflicts with her identity, tyra didn't believe her.
