People Get Ready (live version) from the Love, Peace and Happiness double album released in 1969.
People get ready, there's a train a comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
Don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord

People get ready for the train to Jordan
It's picking up passengers from coast to coast
Faith is the key, open the doors and board 'em
There's hope for all among those loved the most.

There ain't no room for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just to save his own
Have pity on those whose chances grow thinner
For there's no hiding place against the Kingdom's throne

So people get ready, there's a train a comin'
You don't need no baggage, you just get on board
All you need is faith to hear the diesels hummin'
Don't need no ticket, you just thank the Lord

  • @rogerrrubin Its probably the best one besides the original. This is my particular favorite "version". I had the record growin up. I almost wore it out. Most people dont realize the importance or significance or the beauty of a song. The Chambers Brothers were /are very precious indeed. Some people,,,most people,,,,,just dont get past the glitz and sales. And I DONT wanna see BONO (U2) when Im listening to this. Hehe! Its all about sales to most people these 'daze'. Peace to you ♥"Jenny"

  • rogerrubin, I agree. Was intoduced to the album in circa 67/68. Great album

  • Can't believe it was 45 years ago that I first listened to the Chambers Brothers in a club in Greenwich village called the Downtown.Yes, it was down- in a basement!! I was a college student uptown and can't remember how I wound up there, but I went back every weekend for months to hear them and dance . They didn't even have a stage- there was sweat running off them and all the kids jammed in that place. Best days in the Village- 1965-1968.
