@FrenzyGuys Not anymore.
Now you pay for that Gibson logo on the headstock.
While Gibson's quality has gone down, Epiphone’s quality has gotten better and better.
The gap has disappeared while the price difference has not.
Like Cadillac, Gibson has become a status symbol and they are living off of their name while other makers have passed them by.
Go to Guitar Center and compare a $700 Schecter Solo-6 Custom with a $2,500 Gibson Les Paul and do it without the preconceived notions.

The pick ups and sound is clearly better in the Gibson, which is what you'd expect for the price you pay. The Epi dot however is good if your a part time muso or if you don't have the money for the Gibson. Personly I'd love to own a Gibson 335, but the Epi Dot will have to do untill I win the Lottery!

The Gibson easily sounds better - richer tonality and better presence - but that's likely due to pick-up differences. So better quality pickups on the Epiphone would likely make it comparable the Gibson, although I have no idea what differences there are in the playability. from experience I'm not particularly impressed by Epiphone pick-ups anyway.

reading my comment below boath companies were making top of the line instruments but moving epiphone to japan and later moving to korea epiphone had cheaper labour costs making it a cheaper guitar. and the question is this is gibson guitars realy worth all that money or are we paying more for just a name?. my preferance give me a high quality epiphone then an over priced gibson.

epiphone started to make musical instruments in 1873. gibson started to make musical instruments in 1896. from the 1930s until the 1950s epiphone was gibsons biggest rival with more jazz players prefering epiphone guitars to gibson.but after epiphones forced relocation from new york to philadelphia gibson bought epiphone 1957. and in 1958 epiphone released its sheratone series later that same year gibson released its es335 series.it was not until the early 70s that epiphone was moved to japan.

@rafaarias That's kind of the point, isn't it? The Gibson should be worth every penny. If it isn't, you've just spent a shed load of cash for no good reason. The real question is: is the Epiphone worth it? If it feels and sounds like shit, there's no excuse - you get what you pay for. However, I own both an Epiphone Les Paul and Epiphone Dot (total cost: less than EUR 800) and I couldn't happier.

Hi Guy thats totallly cool the way you compare both the gibson and the epi,
no difference i can see. both are cool guitars,
-
I would buy the Epiphone DOT and changed its Humbuckers to Gibson 57 Humbuckers
-
To be fair, you could buy the epi, and replace the pickups nd everythin it'l still be cheaper than the gibson
-
Somehow I think the Epiphone sounds a little sweeter'..Good value for money eventhough a lot of people would go for the Gibson...I love my Epi Dot anyway..!!

Hi, I've got the cube 30 too but have never managed to get this sound out of it. Could you please give me a rough guideline of the settings in this video. Thanks, and great playing!

@satchtech Well..... the amp doesn't belong to me and I haven't played on it since I did this video.... but from what I remember, I think I had it on one of the tweed Fender type models and pushed the gain up just enough so it had a little bite to it. Then I added some reverb. But I can't remember what exact settings I had on it.
