Graffiti will incur a criminal sentence of 2 years gaol (jail) under the new O'Farrel Government in NSW. Some laws in juvenile justice reforms to repatriate and shorten sentences are an improvement, but don't you think this is excessive? Do you think Sydney could have designated graffiti alleys with the permission of the landlords, as they have in Melbourne?

  • Hi

    I Love you

  • @johnmartinhp Hi Thank you. That is sweet.

  • Yeah give it some colour!

  • @ZMoulton Yep, especially in Newtown. I know most of the land owners in Newtown like mural graffiti art, but the Council paints over it anyway claiming jurisdiction over their property, to mike the street look "tidy".

  • Typical right wing conservative approach to crime with the emphasis on punishment rather than prevention, or rehabilitation. If you want to prevent kids from moving into the graffiti subculture, how about addressing the education system, which has been withering away for decades. How about reforming schools so they are more than just glorified creches? Is jail really going to stop someone from reoffending? No-one ever comes out a better person. If anything, it will entrench their criminality.

  • GRAFFITI IS TAGGING AND PIECES, IT ALL STARTED WITH A TAG AND JUST GOT BIGGER AND BIGGER, SO ALL U HATERS THAT THINK TAGGING IS RUBBISH, IT FUCKING STARTED WITH TAGGING.

  • Good idea, but this state is really run by two parties that would never let it pass 2GB and 2UE

  • It would be great to see some more street art in Sydney. I have done a couple of news stories on street artists recently and there is a lot of talent out there.

  • Excellent proposal. The graffiti laws are not concerned with public beautification but with idiot 'taggers' whose idea of art is a horrid black scrawl & splodge. Real street artists shd be paid to cover the taggers rubbish with real art, free to ppl bcos it's on display in the public street & no one can make you pay to see it. Agents & middle men wd love you to pay - if they cd just get the graffitists to decorate their galleries. Hey Barry, maybe threats of gaol will make them go indoors!!

  • @saintfletcher 100% correct.

  • 2 years in jail, that's ridiculous, in my opinion.

  • OK, I think I found the typo. TY TY!!!
