It seems simple enough but sometimes the simple things can be made difficult. Honda automatic transmission fluid changes are not like most transmission fluid changes in a few ways, those ways are outlined in this video.

That hapens in all gears n it doesnt have power.. Any thoughts.?? Thanks man.

  • @inkietolokochon Hard to say. Start with any check engine lights or D4 lights that you might have. Also make sure the fluid level is correct and that you're using Honda fluid.

  • Is there no trans filter to be changed?

  • @BIGW0RD Not possible, it's in the transmission case and is not serviceable.

  • Is it normal to change the fluid then shift through all the PNRD and the first couple to be like hard shifts?

  • @PBballer23list Not in my experience.

  • Always make sure you can get the fill plug off before you remove the drain plug!~

  • HEY eric i got a question in school i learned that if you want to completly flush your trans fluid to just remove the return line of the trans cooler from the radiator nd put a longer hose that will go into a bucket and turn the car on let all the fluid pump out till u see none coming out and when u see none coming out to turn the car off fill it up and you will be fine. HAve you ever done a complete tranny flush like that?

  • Thanks... just did the first of three flushes following your video. Piece of cake provided you start with a 24" long 1/2" drive size breaker bar on the fill plug. I tried a 10" long 3/8" socket wrench with extension & the cheap chinese made 3/8" extension shafts twisted 180 degrees & are now useless. Also the ratchet in the 10" long socket busted on the second try... so best to get the fill bolt off before you drain. The Drain bolt came off real easy with a 10" long 3/8" socket drive.

  • Does the 92 Accord with AT use the same ATF-Z1 / DW1 fluid as shown in the video?

  • Great video as usual. The only thing I think people should research is what fluid to use. I know you said not to use DEX/MERC oil but googling there are many many happy people using valvoline maxlife. Most of those users said that they had better performance compared to atf-z1. It seems like you pay less for maxlife but get better performance.

  • Is there a way you can show on how to change the fluid on a manual transmission on a 94 honda prelude. I heard that I don't use transmission fluid only Gear Oil. I never seen a tranmission dip stick in my car anywhere. Thanks!

  • is it the same step for a 2000 honda odyssey?

  • Eric, I've heard the number one killer of honda transmissions of this era is heat. I assume that's why you mentioned that honda installed a cooler. Would an aftermarket cooler that runs inline with the stock cooler work just as well? Or should I seek out and purchase the honda unit that works through the fill bolt location?

  • I have replaced a Honda automatic transmission and did use the recomended Honda ATF.It was a 2004 Honda Accord.Chrysler automatics does use synthetic ATF from the factory using ATF+4 fluid only
