Den Kongelige Livgarde and the Grenadier & Coldstream guards all trace their origins back to the same 1650s period.
So it's safe to say they're all equally old and equally the best, what difference does 2 or 6 years make.

1685 is given as the date of 'the beginning of the band as a distinct entity'.
Any band that is offered a march (Scipio) before its premier by a brilliant composer such as Handel deserves kudos.

yes, a cracking good march, played by a bloody amazing band, arguably the best, and certainly the oldest (c.1659?) band in the entire world (well, universe, actually)!!

I agree Grey707. Not that I wish to put down any regimental band, especially that of the Grenadier's but when it comes down to it, the Royal Marines do come out on top.
