Directed by Kevin Dressler, "The Overcoat" is an adaptation of a short story by Nikolai Gogol. The lead character, Akaky Akakievich, is an inconsequential copy clerk who desires an overcoat for protection from the harsh cold winters in St. Petersburg. He can not afford one, then gets one and subsequently loses it. The simplicity and starkness of this tale made Gogol the father of modern Russian realism. This production has a minimal stage set with a desk and four wooden boxes and incorporates mime and sound effects.
