NFL Preseason Video Series: Cleveland Browns 2012 Training Camp Battles

The Browns are one of well over a dozen training camp previews SB Nation will roll out throughout what's always one of the most exciting weeks of the year for hardcore NFL fans.

It's year two of the Pat Shurmur era in Cleveland. That means Browns fans will want to see marked improvement over last year when the Browns struggled in their transition to Shurmur's west coast offense.

Chris Pokorny of Dawgs By Nature checks in with a thorough look at the Browns' training camp outlook, and how various positional battles will affect the makeup of Cleveland's final 53-man roster.

I'm not a big fan of Marecic, but Smelley has not been getting any first-team reps. It would not be a logical move for the coaching staff to cut the guy who they have been giving all of the reps to, and fullback is not even Smelley's natural full-time position from college. Smelley might be the guy who ends up off the 53-man roster and on the practice squad.

This video was shot before training camp started. When camp started, it was clear that Gordon would not be in the slot.

Quit reading your own web article and actually speak like you have a clue. Marecic is absolutely horrible and how he makes first cuts will be amazing. Smelley wins that battle in a walk. If smith does get cut, that will be unfortunate as he is our best blocking TE or FB by a long margin. Watch the tape, Marecic whiffed on more blocks than Dave Winfield had strikeouts and couldn't catch a cold. Period.

By other side, I assume you mean the other DE position. It'll be Frostee Rucker. If his injury keeps him out into the season, though, the other two candidates are Emmanuel Stephens and Marcus Benard. If you mean the DT position next to him, I'd like to see Winn get it now.
