How can you not love this one? As Hendrix interpreted All Along The Watchtower, Shatner nails Rocketman.
His recent homophobic Sulu Wedding Snub notwithstanding--we love ol' Bill. Taxi, Rocket Man, and Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds place him in the pantheon of Shakespearian theater godz! Rock on, William Shatner--Rock on into that bitter night! O Rock!

This is so bad it is funny. I bet Bernie was watching it backstage going "Oh dear god" haha.

Thanks for stopping in. Just wondering, what part is bad, specifically? I mean, is this a poorly-written song? Is Bill's interpretation lacking in anything? I would like to respectfully suggest that this is actually so damn good you can't believe it. Who would even attempt to touch this today? Which network would show it unironically? I'm actually asking. I hope you actually answer.

The song is a classic. William Shatner's interpretation of it is really weird though. If he had done it without the special effects and had just sat there by himself it probably would have been better.

Well, fair enough. Luckily you weren't there when this was put together. Those characters, who all split, then re-merge. It's certainly dated, but the resounding opinion here is that it's sheer brilliance. Still, there's no counting for taste, and we are all entitled to our own take. I hope you watch it again and again--and his interpretation of TAXI on Dinah. Let THAT one get under your skin!

Your inability to see at a glance what is wrong reveals a lot about you. Shatner's bizarre and overwrought "interpretation" is pretentious, pompous, and by far the worst of all, devoid of thespian talent and aesthetic discrimination.

I'm interested, then, to hear what you regard as "good." To each his own, buddy. I'm not alone in finding this piece brilliant. Loosen up and enjoy. You can say pretentious and pompous--but how? That's Shatner. If you don't get him, you don't get him. Cool with me.

This is incredibly weird. And funny at first.
But then I listened to it a few times. And, in his own, strange, William Shatner way, he did nail it.
