When he learned that "amarcord" is not only the name of a Fellini movie, but is Italian for "I remember," Bill Ritchie thought of a visit to a printmaking studio and school in Florence in 1983, there he was introduced to Signora Maria Luigia Guaita, the principal founder of the studios. She described her vision--to continue Il Bisonte as a center of publishing etchings and lithographs by major European artists and develop an international graphics school. Today you can visit Il Bisonte online. Ritchie remembers Guaita for her inspiring declaration: "Only art and poetry can save the world now." Lisa Apatoff, American expatriot, translates Guaita's words for this video artifact. Antonella Antonini provided subtitles. After the great lady's inspired speech, Ritchie interrupts the program to show how he is reviving his 1983 VHS tapes of his world travels. Then he added the prelude to her speech.
Wow! Well, if you see Lisa or anything, say hello for me! - Bill
