  • Do the current generation modifieds contain ground-effects, or are they still banned?

  • Actually, the #112 inspired much of the technology that goes into the modern day DIRTCAR... The rulebook as far as body designs are a little more strict now, and there aren't as many chasis builders now as there were then.

  • thanks to kenny weld for building that controversial machine. what a car.

  • all that fuss about the ground effects and nobody realized gary's car had ram air feeding that big block all of its horsepower

  • Gary made that from the money he made smuggling and selling cocanie ..

  • @Buggy1Boy oh sorry but that Bud stuff looked familiar. Did not know about Geoff's connections to this series.

  • @vidEvWill Geoff was racing these cars before he went Cup racing...Cale Yarborough was racing for Junior that year.

  • Going over the wall at Talledega will do that.

  • you were a lucky lucky guy to have known him, Richie is a legend and always will be and he belongs in the Hall, I hope he gets in, if not this year, next year because he belongs there. Sorry, my mistake about the Bud stuff, it just looked familiar.

  • So much history here. Heard many a word about this particular race from 1980 but never had the opportunity to see it. This super dirt week certainly changed the north east modified scene. Besides, I didn't get to go to Syracuse this year so this video put a smile on my face. Thank you so much!

  • Well some names that ring a bell, Buzzie Reutimann raced in this race. He finished second. He's David Reutimann's father. Geoffery Bodine ran this race. In 1980 Geoffery Bodine was just breaking into Winston Cup racing. He was still running in the NASCAR Mods this point in his career. He has a Winston hat on if you look closer. Jimmy Horton I believe ran this race too. He had a couple NASCAR starts but did not pan out well for him.

  • Any active or retired Cup drivers in this race at all?
