Peter Mawanga, Malawian musician and activist who has gained renown for his advocacy of underprivileged children through music, gave a free lecture entitled "Hearing is Healing: The Intersection of Music and Public Health" on Sept. 21 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Mawanga is known for his advocacy of street children and orphans whose lives have been devastated by AIDS. In 2004 he founded Talents of the Malawian Child, an NGO which provides underprivileged children the opportunity to get a musical education.
