Multiplayer Gaming with HTML5: Are We Ready?
11 April 2011

HTML5 gaming is on the rise. In this talk, Rob Hawkes (@robhawkes) explores some of the options available for creating multiplayer games using these new Web technologies.

In it he hopes to answer some important questions, like how do you actually do it? And, are we even ready for multiplayer gaming with plugin-less technologies?

  • @neoprana I mean if performance is a issue, and I know JavaScript is not exactly fast and well formed anyway, then there are solutions that like using C or C++ to handle data rather than node.js (I don't like it) or PHP. Flash will always be a dominant player when it comes to multimedia, but if things with HTML5 keep getting better, I do see commercial game companies porting their Flash-built games to the HTML5 spec to get a much bigger audience or just a new field of ideas (social-aspect).

  • @neoprana I wouldn't say it was a joke; the whole technology is new and it needs time to mature. As long as there are people like Rob Hawkes, it is safe to say that improvements will be made. I condone HTML5 for game programming purely because I don't want to learn Flash, and I don't want to pay to start creating a game, and I want a bigger audience by removing the requirement of having Flash installed.

Things WILL get better especially with the V8 JavaScript engine.

  • Gaming with HTML5 expecially Multiplayer Gaming is a JOKE today... it wont work for 80% of all ppl because the browser do not suporrt somthing.

In 4-5 years maybe... the browsers are not ready... the code is not ready ... the tools to develop it are not made now...
