I'm playing around with x0xb0x, TB-303 and Audiorealism ABL 2.10. I really love all three machines and wanted to compare them.

  • something sounds wrong with the x0x, i've built two of them and they dont sound like that here :-O were the correct parts used?

  • Yes, the envelope behaved very strange. I didn't build it myself, bought it on eBay.

I didn't like the sound of my x0xb0x so I traded it for a SH-101 with a friend.

I would still like to get another x0xb0x though...

  • Arrrrgh - every time I see a new video from you I get so excited...but alas, it is only another comparison! :) I'd love to hear another full track of yours...

  • Hehe, thanks! I have no time to work on my own tracks at the moment. There's some new releases coming later this year though. Cheers.

  • The differences between the clones and original are so small it's negligible. You can make an acceptable Acid track with any one of those units. I used to own a real 303 and yes I was a fool to sell it however, I now use the ABL Bassline 2 and in all honesty it sounds so close to the real thing that I'm not so bothered about the loss of my real 303. People who argue about the differences nowadays are basically just splitting hairs IMO.

  • i think part of the problem is that the settings don't always seem to be the same for each thing, it makes it harder to A/B them when you switch.

They all sound pretty similar otherwise...

  • I know no one agrees with me but it is ok...I still like to cause a ruckus. I have a Mc-09 and honestly easily Achive Tb-303 bass and leads with no issue, Although I do admit the sound is much better when squashed by some compression. In refference to the comparison though. I think the x0xB0x sounds the leaste like the 303 in reguards to the Low end. x0x simply has more of it. I must say that the software was pretty spot on though....

  • what kind of mixer is that?

  • they sound identical to me! Thanks for posting.

  • I think you can defenitly hear the difference between ABL(or any other emulator) or a 303/x0xb0x. Its the crispy analog sound! Most people dont hear the difference but real acid lovers do

  • @phono1337

the slide time is too long

i guess it's C35.. maybe the wrong value

  • @dwaynedibbly it was a nice twist to find out that my favourite sounding channel was actually coming from the software abl! This si very pleasing for me cos now I can download it for free, just gotta setup a good midi controller setup for it tho cos i had pure software production.

  • what a greedy bastard. i don't have any of these :(

  • @phono1337 perhaps it is not calibrated correctly. as far as i know you have to use an oscilloscope to do it properly. perhaps he did it by ear ;)
