Agreed, I might get one for sighting in. I`m not the best shooter out there so it would be nice to save a few rounds while sighting in a scope to make sure the rifle is steady

Why does the kid shoot with his mouth open? He's obviously waiting for a dick to be put in it.
-
Any good scope should be fine. If it throws your scope off... get a new scope.
But remember when using any sort of sled. Don't put a hundred pounds on it. You can crack the stock of your gun because the energy has to go somewhere.
As for the Caldwell Lead Sled... I was in the market for another, and just ordered one online. :)

too mach $

How much abuse does the internals of your gun/scope take while using the "Lead Sled"??? Where does the energy go??? It is absorbed where???
-
Why in the world would you need a lead-sled for a .223 Remington or similarly weak round? You will never learn good shooting habits if you can't even shoot an AR-15 without a recoil absorption device.
The energy travels tthrough the frame into an upward movement at the tray which holds the weight. To ensure to maximum energy transfer, keep the buttstock firmly seated against the back of the rear rest.

You can use lead shot, sand, or any other material you prefer. I couldn't speak specifically to mortar sand, but I don't see why that wouldn't work. Please note the weight bags are sold separately.

For the AR-15, I would recommend the Lead Sled DFT. The dual frame allows room for the extended magazine.
